Politically Incorrect Movie Review
The War of Northern Aggression:
Actual Abe Lincoln quote: "If I could save The Union without freeing any slaves, I would do it." (in a letter to Horace Greeley)

The PC flies out of Cold Mountain like grapeshot from a 10-pound Parrott gun. Several times characters allude to "... fighting to protect the rights of a rich man to own a slave." This is the never-ending Publik Skool (read: Government School) view of the so-called "Civil War." This is so far from the truth it is actually surprising that even Hollyweird could be so stupid. Fact is, it was not even truly a "civil war." A civil war is a war fought between two or more factions within a nation for control of that nation. This is not what happened in America from 1861 to 1865. The Southern States seceded. They did not attack the North. They merely formed their own nation. The Federals then attacked the Confederates, after goading the Confederates by blockading Charleston Harbor. In effect, a larger, more powerful nation attempted to swallow up its smaller neighbor. This is exactly what Iraq tried to do to Kuwait in August of 1990. Kuwait was once part of Iraq. Unlike the Confederates, Kuwait had a powerful friend; oddly enough, the United States of America. Howzat for an odd turn of events?"
Gollee. D'ya think ol' RockyD doesn't seem to agree with the pusillanimous propaganda promulgated by the putrid pothead producers in hollyweird?

Gun control, race, and rotten politicians
Here's a teaser to John Silveira's piece: "Is gun control really about guns? Sounds like an odd question on the surface, but it's really right on target. In fact, the answer is: No, gun control is not really about guns. It's about failed social programs, the destruction of the black family in America, and the rotten politicians who are responsible."

MLK Jr - dishonorable Marxist
Mary Starrett reminds us of the unsavory character of King and the con job that has been perpertrated on the American people:
"Get ready for the inevitable, interminable 'I Have A Dream' video montages, the endless droning of the media about the Reverend Martin Luther King's martyrdom for America's downtrodden . Get ready for the annual con job that's been foisted on the populace for 21 years. For if we judge Martin Luther King Jr. on 'the content of his character' and 'not the color of his skin', surely no banks or schools or post offices would be shut down for a day. Is this the best Black man America has to offer up to honor?

Consider that while the bleating flocks follow blindly in their homage, few have the guts to state the truth. The man was anything but honorable. Michael King was born in 1929 in Atlanta. His father, a Baptist preacher changed both his and his son's names to Martin Luther. Soon after getting used to his new name, Martin Jr. realized he had a flair for dramatic oratory. And soon after that, he realized he had a flair for seducing women."
Do we have an MLK Jr. Street/Avenue/Boulevard/Whatever here in Kansas City? Hmmm. 47th Street has a sign saying Emmanuel Clever, uh, Cleaver II Boulevard or something similar.

Reaganomics?
Repudiating the National Debt:
"Since Reagan, however, intellectual-political life has gone topsy-turvy. Conservatives and allegedly 'free-market' economists have turned handsprings trying to find new reasons why 'deficits don't matter,' why we should all relax and enjoy the process. Perhaps the most absurd argument of Reaganomists was that we should not worry about growing public debt because it is being matched on the federal balance sheet by an expansion of public 'assets.' Here was a new twist on free-market macroeconomics: things are going well because the value of government assets is rising! In that case, why not have the government nationalize all assets outright? Reaganomists, indeed, came up with every conceivable argument for the public debt except the phrase of Abba Lerner, and I am convinced that they did not recycle that phrase because it would be difficult to sustain with a straight face at a time when foreign ownership of the national debt is skyrocketing. Even apart from foreign ownership, it is far more difficult to sustain the Lerner thesis than before; in the late 1930's, when Lerner enunciated his thesis, total federal interest payments on the public debt were one billion dollars; now they have zoomed to $200 billion, the third largest item in the federal budget, after the military and Social Security: the 'we' are looking ever shabbier compared to the 'ourselves.'"
This reprint of a Murray Rothbard piece is even more pertinent today than when he wrote it. Just yesterday the total public debt (as reported) jumped to over seven trillion dollars. Read the entire piece here.

Not my neighbor?
From an editorial in the Wake Forest Old Gold and Black student newspaper:
During a forum in Iowa, Dale Ungerer, a resident of Iowa, urged Dean to "tone down the garbage, the mean mouthing, the tearing down of your neighbor and being so pompous." He continued, "You should help your neighbor and not tear him down."

Howard Dean in goofy mode To this, Dean retorted immediately, "George Bush is not my neighbor."

Whoa, what was that? I thought the dishonest liberal mantra was, "We are all neighbors. Only conservatives kick people to the curb."

Heck, even basic Americanism involves acknowledging one's neighbors. Respecting and recognizing others as neighbors is the very foundation of the rights and freedoms we enjoy.

For anyone to reject someone as their neighbor is troubling, but for a presidential candidate to directly reject a sitting president in such a manner is even more disturbing. After all, by rejecting George W. Bush as his neighbor, Howard Dean rejects me and any other supporter of our president as his neighbors also.
If I can work it you'll be able to hear Dean's rhetoric if this is an orange link.

Mars again...
Charley Reese is trying to be funny. Here is a pretty good shot:
"I wish I could share the excitement the scientists obviously feel about the pictures from Mars, but they just look like Nevada to me. If they ever get air conditioning on Mars, maybe somebody will open a casino there."

Lincolnian Tyranny
Thomas DiLorenzo complains:
"The neocon cabal is beginning to make the case for imprisoning -- or possibly executing -- members of Congress who oppose the war in Iraq. An example of this development is a December 23 Insight magazine article, 'When Does Politics Become Treason'."
DiLorenzo equates the actions of Lincoln against those who dissented as possible in today's political and war environment. His fear and apprehension is probably warranted. Lincoln's "War of Northern Aggression" was not constitutionally viable. Is Dubya's "War Against Terrorism" valid today? Of course, the devilish deceptions and deviousness of the Democrats is questionable at the very least.

Was Thomas Jefferson an enemy of God?
Steve Farrell - Sierra Times.com: Thomas Jefferson in 1805
Numerous anti-Christian cynics feel certain, despite ample evidence to the contrary, that the answer is 'yes.' After all, Jefferson once advised, 'Question with boldness even the existence of a God.' (1) An interesting challenge.

The quote, found in a personal letter to Peter Carr, has been combined, by these cynics, with several other Jefferson jabs at religion, to give the impression that Thomas Jefferson was more like a soul mate of Karl Marx than John Adam's, and more in favor of freedom from religion than freedom of religion.

But it's not true. The Jefferson quote is taken out of context, way out. So what else is new?

Place the quote in context, and well, take a look for yourself."
Yes. Thomas Jefferson was a dedicated and active Christian. The Geobbels principle of telling a lie often enough and loud enough until der volks believe it to be the truth is being exercised daily. Don't believe anything you see on the web unless you know it to be true independently. This article is well cited. Verify the cites.

Manufacturing confusion
Thomas SowellThomas Sowell explains in his inimitable lucid and cogent manner:
"There is no question that many computer programming jobs have moved from the United States to India. But this is just a half-truth, which can be worse than a lie. As management consultant Peter Drucker points out in the current issue of Fortune magazine, there are also foreign jobs moving to the United States.

In Drucker's words, 'Nobody seems to realize that we import twice or three times as many jobs as we export. I'm talking about the jobs created by foreign companies coming into the U.S.,' such as Japanese automobile plants making Toyotas and Hondas on American soil."
No, we are not in trouble as some pundits and politicians proclaim. Sensible economist Sowell makes it clear that confusion on the transfer of manufacturing jobs is due either to ignorance or demagoguery. In any case the confusion is caused by ignoring the facts. An excellent column as usual.

Jury considers Carnahan case
Kansas City Star:
"A lawyer for the Carnahan family asked jurors for $100 million in actual damages and a finding of punitive damages. The family contends that two vacuum pumps failed and shut off power to instruments critical to flight on the stormy night of the crash."
Let us pray the jurors have the common sense to reject such nonsense.

The Democrats' idea of a general
Ann Coulter: "Democrats are so delirious about finding a general who is a pacifist scaredy-cat that no one seems to have bothered to investigate whether Wesley Clark is sane."

Enforcement Actions
Carl Worden explains:
"...[T]he majority of Americans, both self-employed and employed, are regularly supplementing their reported incomes with unreported income from a vast number of sources too numerous to mention here, and they are doing it because they cannot live a decent lifestyle on their after-tax incomes. It is open season for the IRS - and they know it.

When the IRS had its wrists slapped a few years ago, after all the horror stories and mayhem committed by the IRS had become known, Congress severely restricted the IRS' budget and its unconstitutional right to force taxpayers to prove their innocence in tax cases. All that is over.

No, there was no recent legislation passed to take the 'cuffs off the IRS: What King George wants, King George gets, and that will be the legacy of the Bush 43 Administration.

On a whim, King George wages war without a congressional declaration. On a whim, King George strips an arrested American citizen of his right to legal counsel, to face his accusers or to force his accusers to present the evidence they claim to have against him in a court of law.

Oh, but King George has God and Jesus on his side, so the truly stupid among us continue to worship him no matter what he does, constitutional or not. Bush-lovers are not true Christians, because George W. Bush is not a Christian by any means of the imagination.

To put it bluntly, Bush-lovers mindlessly worship Bush, the same way Clinton-lovers mindlessly worshipped Clinton. You cannot reason with them."
Is anyone listening? More and more conservatives are realizing the blatant unconstitutionality of our current gummint.

Musings
Lyn Nofziger:
"There's a crybaby named O'Neil
Who once was Treasury's big wheel.
He cannot understand
Just why he was canned
And all he can do now is squeal."
I made only a minor change for the sake of poetic meter.

CNN.com doesn't understand English?
Teddy Kennedy in rant modeCNN baldly states that "U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy, an elder statesman among liberal Democrats, slammed President Bush and his administration for going to war in Iraq based on political considerations." The Merriam-Webster toolbar on my computer defines "statesman" as "one who exercises political leadership wisely and without narrow partisanship." It seems to me that no "liberal Democrat" has ever met that criterion. My American Heritage hard copy lexicon says, "A political leader regarded as a disinterested promoter of the public good." Well, that doesn't cut it either.

His assasinated brothers were perceived as having some elements of intelligence and savoir faire. That's possibly why they were eliminated. Swimmer Teddy has only survived in the senate for all these years because of the pervasive ignorance of the voters of Massachusetts. Certainly not for his intelligence nor his morality. Has Teddy ever done anything in his life that was not "based on political considerations"?

Perhaps the real question may be how does one spell Chappaquiddick?

No More Commercial Flying For Me
Chuck Baldwin declares:
"President Bush is no friend of liberty, and neither is he a friend to constitutional government nor national sovereignty. Four more years of a Bush administration could very well mean the death knell of freedom in these United States."
Dubya is "progressively" driving the conservatives away. Where can we go? Home, I s'pose. We may find many, many conservative voters staying home on election day.

Wine source in Kansas City
On the way home from errands and prime ribs at Romanelli Grill I spotted the new wine store at the northwest corner of Rockhill Road and Gregory Boulevard. We're in the northern reaches of Waldo, an older community in Kansas City. The sign on the wine store is Waldeaux Wines. What a great play on pronunciation. Check out the web page at http://www.waldeauxwine.com

Pat Collins and his "Cru" have put together one of the finer sources for wine lovers in the area. I bought a bottle of Bordeaux from the vineyard of the Baron de Montesquieu, the philosopher revered and emulated by Jefferson and Franklin. This "Constitution Reserve" sounds excellent. I shall let you know how this Merlot/Cabernet blend tickles the tongue.

Christmas Eve 2004: It is an excellent wine.

Ammunition plant reaching its limit
Seattle Times reports: 7.62 x 54 cartridge
Gen. Paul Kern, commander of the Army Materiel Command, said Friday that giving priority to those units in Afghanistan and Iraq and those training to deploy there soon, ensured they had enough small-arms ammunition. 'Everyone else will have to pay the price' and wait for it, he said.

The increased demand for ammunition for combat shooting and intensified training has made deep inroads in the nation's war reserves of ammunition, Kern said.

The sole plant making small-arms ammunition, the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Mo., is running three eight-hour shifts a day, six days a week. The plant provides 5.56 mm rifle, 7.62 mm and .50 caliber machine gun as well as 9 mm pistol cartridges for all branches of the military.
Thanks to Willie Jeff...

What Does Kwanzaa Have to do With It?
Kelly McGinley concludes saying:
"Looking back on history there has never been freedom in Africa or in any Muslim countries, just a long history of bloodshed that comes from their philosophy and belief systems. Christianity is the only religion that makes us all equal, every person a brother, or a sister, where there are no different races; we are all apart of the same family. So patriots we must not be ashamed of America and her Christian roots which made her great. We must stop our government from outlawing Christianity while it promotes outlandish holidays and honors false religions. In America we allow all beliefs, but don't allow them to destroy our heritage and the foundation of our freedoms."
How does one proceed to overcome this insanity? Make it a point to wish folks a "Merry Christmas." Try to respond to "Happy Holidays" with "Have a blessed Christmas and a prosperous new year." Shop only in those stores whose clerks say "Merry Christmas." Let management know of your distress. Tell politicians you will only support them if...

NFL Playoffs - Colts defeat Chiefs
ESPN.com says it all:
"Who needs a dominating defense when no one can stop your offense? For a second week in a row, the Colts didn't have to punt and led throughout during a victory over the Chiefs 38-31."
The Colts travel to New England to play the Patriots in the AFC title game next Sunday.

The Chiefs lost in the first playoff game again.

More, more on Mars
FFF Email Update reports:
"The Mars Rover has landed on the surface of Mars. President Bush has been watching the rover every day. He says that the rover will stay on Mars for a few months until they are capable of self-rule."
