| Dear Editor:
Mr. Tammeus wants voting machines yelling, "Hey, knucklehead . .
. " May I suggest a voting process providing a vote for "None
of the above," aka NOTA. For every candidate and for every
question the voter must be able to record a declination to choose.
It doesn't matter whether it's a butterfly ballot, an optically scanned
ballot or, the traditional paper ballot counted immediately after the
election by local citizens, not government officials--but that's a
discussion for another time. The NOTA vote eliminates any question
of "voter intent." The NOTA vote, should it
"win," would require new candidates for the office and another
election. A NOTA vote on a question, amendment, proposition
or whatever would indicate the irrelevance of the question.
Nevertheless, regarding the voting process my friend, Brad, is correct
when he says, "It's too bad ignorance isn't painful."
