When it comes to luxurious travel,
the Concorde provides the combination of unrivalled speed
with luxurious accommodations. The
Concorde travels at twice the speed of
sound, a passenger will arrive in New York earlier than the time the Concorde
took off from London. Concorde crosses the Atlantic in 3 hours 40 minutes. At an
altitude of over 18,000m, enjoy a unique view of the curvature of the earth and
the colours of the stratosphere. Only British Airways and Air France
provide Concorde service to and from New York and Paris/London. At 55,000
feet, a passenger can literally see the curve of the earth. The
atmospheric pressure in the cabin is maintained below that of subsonic services.
British Airways claims that this alleviates fatigue in trans-atlantic flights. The Concorde seats 100 passengers.
There is no
separate first class and economy designation on the Concorde. Anyone who
can afford a ticket on the Concorde, goes first class. A
round trip ticket from New York to either London or Paris, costs approximately
$9,000.00. World class menus, specially created by top chefs and the
finest wines and champagnes selected exclusively from our Concorde cellar, are
served in flight. The food and wine selection may vary depending on
whether the Concorde is a British Airways or Air France plane, but rest assured
that anything served is a first class product. Goods can be purchased from
the Concorde's premium duty free brochure 'The Collector'. As you can see
from the photo of the interior, the plane is actually quite small when compared
with modern jetliners. The ceiling is quite low and the aisle is narrow.
The seats are typically sized airplane seats, not the over-sized seats that you
would expect in the first class section of a 747. The seats are finished
in the richest Connolly leather. On interesting attribute of Concorde
travel is that because of the high speed, the interior tends to heat up.
During flight, the windows will actually be warm to the touch.
The Concorde flies out of Charles DeGaulle Airport in
Paris, John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City, and Heathrow Airport in London.
At all of these locations, Concorde passengers receive first class treatment.
There is a separate lounge exclusively for Concorde passengers.
Complimentary porters are available and baggage is expedited during off loading.
British Airways claims that baggage will be available in less than ten minutes
of arrival. The plane can be boarded directly from the lounge.
